External and Internal Links

Creating hyperlinks (links for short) is easy. A link can open another Web site or another page from the site your in.
In order to open a different Web site, you need to use an ABSOLUTE LINK, which must include the “http://” before the full Web site address.

To open a page within the current site, you can use a RELATIVE LINK, which only needs the page name (such as activities.html) or a ROOT-RELATIVE LINK, which may include a folder path (Tripsmart/index.html).

Internal Links to Named Anchors

A named anchor allows you to create a link that goes to a specific spot on the current page. This is usually used on a page with a lot of text to scroll through. You can position an “anchor” next to each important item of content and then create a list of those items at the top of the page as links. You can also create “return to top of page” anchor links to be placed in text or at the bottom of the page.

Rollovers with Flash text

The Flash text tool in Dreamweaver allows you create Flash rollover content without going to the Flash application. Through an easy-to-use dialog window, you can define the font, size and color of the text and rollover text and then place that Flash text in your page or site multiple times and apply hyperlink info to each one.

Create, modify and copy the navigation bar

One of the most important ways you will create consistency throughout your Web site design is by creating and using a common Navigation bar. You can build the bar with pre-created graphics for the Up, Over and Down states and then copy the entire bar from page to page. You will also learn to apply hyperlinks to the buttons and set the current page’s button to be in the Down state when the page loads.

Image maps

An image map allows you to create hyperlinks from defined areas, called hot spots. This is a great way use a photo or graphic as a navigational tool

Manage Web site links

Using the Link Checker panel, you will learn how to test the hyperlinks throughout a Web site. This is an important step to do before uploading your files.
